China Gas Information
On the morning of November 22, 2024, the ventilation ceremony of the Baotou Linhe Gas Pipeline Project (referred to as the Baolin Pipeline), jointly constructed by China Petroleum Engineering Construction Corporation (CPECC), was successfully held in Linhe District, Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia, marking the successful completion of China's first high-pressure, long-distance pipeline project with hydrogen blending transportation capacity.
The starting point of the Baolin pipeline is Jiuyuan District, Baotou City, passing through Urad Front Banner and Wuyuan County in Bayannur City. It connects with the Changwulin pipeline in Linhe District, with a total length of 258 kilometers, a design pressure of 6.3 megapascals, a maximum gas transmission capacity of 1.2 billion cubic meters per year, and a hydrogen blending ratio of up to 10%. The successful construction of this project is of great significance in promoting the adjustment and optimization of regional energy structure, facilitating the conversion of old and new kinetic energy, and improving the regional atmospheric environment.
Hydrogen embrittlement of pipes has always been a difficult point in the construction of high-pressure hydrogen doped pipelines. In the absence of current standards in China, CPECC North China Branch, as the design unit, joined forces with the owner, technical research institute, manufacturer and other units to form a tackling research group. From repeated adjustments of steelmaking process, to continuous optimization of pipe making process, to trial production of pipes through hydrogen compatibility evaluation, finally successfully developed X52M spiral seam submerged arc welded steel pipes with ultra-high purity and ultrafine grain size, and successfully applied them to this project. This is also the first time in China that spiral seam submerged arc welded steel pipes have been introduced on a large scale into the field of hydrogen transmission pipelines, achieving the goal of efficient, low-cost, and large-scale transportation of green hydrogen resources.
The successful commissioning of this project has established CPECC's leading position in the field of hydrogen transportation. In recent years, CPECC North China Branch has been deeply involved in the application of green hydrogen, and has accumulated 12 core technologies in three series, including green hydrogen preparation, hydrogen energy large-scale storage and transportation, and hydrogen energy refueling and utilization. It has obtained more than 30 national invention patents and other core technological achievements, providing owners with one-stop solutions from early consultation to later operation.
